Our house here at Gilwern is nestled at the foot of the Black Mountains within walking distance of the medieval market town of Abergavenny (four miles) and seven miles from the World Heritage site of Blaenavon. We are just off the A465, within easy reach of the A40 and motorways. If you plan to arrive here by railway, we can collect you from Abergavenny Station, which has good links to the main network via Newport.
Gilwern is ideally and approximately situated mid-way along the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal, twenty miles below Brecon and fifteen miles above Pontymoile. There are plenty of historic sites and places of interest within this area and the Beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park.
The village offers good amenities for those on prolonged visits with three public houses, two well-stocked general stores, post office, chemist, butchers, hair dressers, doctors surgery and excellent fish & chips!
In addition to our accommodation we are able to offer Narrowboat Holiday Hire from our fleet of four traditional narrowboats. Gifts and Crafts are also available from our shop at the same premises. (See other services page)
We are a small, friendly family run business operating from our 150 year old cottage. We welcome business travelers and tourists alike and trade all year round. We can assure you of our closest attention at all times, and all the support you may require during your visit to the area,
We are Ambassadors for: Brecon Beacons National Park and the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal.
